Symptoms of infertility to look out for

Posted by Guest on March 5th, 2010

So you guys have been trying for over twelve months now and you still haven’t conceived? That can be difficult! Before you get too tense it’s a good idea to check out some of the symptoms of infertility and then you can make a decision whether to get some help.

It isn’t difficult to see that the symptoms of infertility are not the same in guys and girls. Duh! Ladies first.

Female Symptoms of Infertility

You could have difficulty having a baby even if your periods are regular and you do all the proper things at all the proper times, but despite this there are certain warning signs you can keep an eye out for. Make sure that you tell your doctor if you have any of the symptoms below. Of course there are other less noticeable symptoms of infertility, but those listed here are most obvious.

  • Irregular Periods – Nonexistent periods, extra long cycles and scant bleeding could sound like a dream come true; but any of these may be symptoms of other fertility difficulties. (All of which wouldn’t be so bad if you weren’t aiming to have a baby.) Then again, a cycle fewer than 24 days, very heavy bleeding, unpredictable periods and acute cramps could also be warning signs. Don’t get stressed if you’ve just come off the pill or another hormonal contraceptive and you aren’t having your period, it might take up to 6 months for your body to get working again.
  • Painful Intercourse – Painful sexual intercourse might be a symptom of endometriosis, which is where cells that are generally only found inside the uterus grow in areas surrounding the uterus as well and this can also affect your fertility badly. There are a couple of reasons for this. You won’t be too keen to do the baby dance if it’s painful, so you’re less likely to get pregnant. If you are stressed because you are trying to get to the big ‘O’ and don’t, that can be unhelpful Pain during sexual intercourse is not helpful for conceiving, and it’s not good for your relationship either; have it seen to! If you experience any acute discomfort in your pelvic area even when you’re not having sex you might need medical help, you don’t want to take any chances!
  • Growing Coarse Hair – Are you inclined to grow coarse hair in all the wrong spots? You might have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome - where there are many small cysts in the ovaries) if you have chronic acne (non-stress related), excessive body hair, skin tags, and oily skin. PCOS also shows itself as infertility. If that’s not dreadful enough, a woman with PCOS will also battle to lose weight and will be more likely to carry her weight around her waist rather than on the hips. I’d recommend you have that sorted out!
  • Weight – Speaking of size, if you are excessively skinny or fat you may also have problems conceiving. You might be pleased about your lean physique, but if you are very thin, your body knows you might not be able to feed you and your growing baby. If you are too fat, the fatty tissue causes your body to produce too much estrogen, which will also affect your ovulation. It definitely won’t help to go on a starvation diet and work out five times a week because too much training can also influence your fertility negatively. Living a healthy life by eating properly and exercising will not only make it easier to have a baby, but you’ll live longer too!
  • Your Biological Clock – After the 35 your fertility decreases rapidly so don’t ignore the clock for too long – as far as it is up to you of course! Timing is crucial so you ought to see a doctor if you guys have been trying for half a year.
  • Infections – Recurring urinary tract infections (UTIs) or persistent yeast infections are not only yucky, and certainly not conducive to a healthy sex life, they may also be indications of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) or other problems that can impact fertility.

Symptoms of Infertility in Men

If you are a guy, there are a number easily perceptible things that can be symptoms of infertility, but you’d normally need some medical assessment to pick up problems with sperm count and motility.

Obvious symptoms of male infertility include:

  • Defective ejaculation
  • Weak or defective erection
  • Undescended testes
  • Other physical abnormalities

You need everything to be in excellent working order to manufacture and distribute sperm effectively.

Not that I’m implying I’ve noticed anything, but do you struggle to manage your weight? Your hormones can get really messed up if you’re too fat because too many fat cells will cause your body to manufacture too much estrogen – not good for the men! Perhaps this is just the kick up the rear you need to get going on that exercise program you keep saying you’ll start!

Sheesh! That’s a fairly terrifying list, but don’t get too miserable about it, it’s not so bad. You can do something about many of the conditions listed here – whether it be by eating properly or by the use of medication or by surgery. You could need to make a few diet adjustments here and there, and bust a few unhelpful; then add a dash of medical intervention and you’ll be on your way to a healthy pregnancy in no time.

ARC, Cooper and Reach Infertility Clinics

Posted by Guest on March 5th, 2010

One of the main difficulties in working through infertility is finding out which clinic to go to. You do your research, you ask your friends, but it’s so tricky to decide! There are many clinics and you want the clinic with the best results for the most affordable prices. But you can’t always have faith in pregnancy rates to give you a good idea of how good the clinic is because some clinics refuse the more difficult cases and some clinics don’t take miscarriages into account in their statistics. Do some investigation on the methods your clinic uses to generate their statistics. There are a coupleof clinics I’ve overheard other friends talking about – so I might be able to offer youa foundation to search from.

You could look at a clinic that has branches all over the country, like the ARC clinics for example. Incidentally, ARC is short for Advanced Reproductive Care. I quite like the fact that they offer pay back guarantees, as well as the fact that they try to be affordable to start with. As much as you want things to go well, if they don’t then at least you know you’ll have the cash to try again. You can also select a monthly payment alternative if that suits your pocket better. My cousin told me it’s also quick and effortless to apply and the staff and support teams are especially pleasant.

A girlfriend living in North Carolina told me about the REACH infertility clinic. In fact, waiting for test results is one of the most stressful parts of infertility treatment – but you get your results much faster there because they have their own committed laboratories. I’ve heard they’re one of the best in the Southeast so it wouldn’t hurt to check them out if you’re close by.

Oh yes, there’s also the Cooper infertility clinic that another relative of mine was at – I think its full name is the Cooper Center for In-Vitro Fertilization or something like that. She said they treat all the different types of of infertility and they have a program where you can donate your oocytes (immature egg cells) in return for almost free IVF procedures, if you’re at ease with that sort of thing of course.

Obviously these are only the ones I know about – they definitely aren’t the only ones! Your doctor is in all probability the best person to ask about that manner of thing.

Infertility Factors - Age, Sex & Other

Posted by Guest on March 3rd, 2010

Infertility Symptoms - Definitions

When a couple cannot have a baby after 12 months of regular and unprotected intercourse, they can be classified infertile. Infertility is the inability to have a baby.

Couples have different reactions to the news of being infertile. Extreme reactions often come from couples who are childless.

Infertility in couples who’ve never born children is primary infertility.

On the other hand, secondary infertility describes the condition wherein couples who have successfully become pregnant once are having difficulties in getting pregnant again.

The Man Factor

Various physical and emotional factors trigger infertility.

Male-exclusive factors such as low sperm count, retrograde ejaculation, scarring from sexually transmitted diseases, hormone deficiency, and impotence, make up around 30-40% of infertility cases.

Intake of prescription drugs like nitrofurantoin, cimetidine and spironolactone and even frequent marijuana use can negatively affect sperm count.

The Woman Factor

Ovulation dysfunction, fallopian tube abnormality, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, scarring from STDs, hormonal imbalances, pelvic infection, poor nutrition, and tumors are just some of these “female factors.” These make up between 40 and 50 % of infertility problems among couples.

Factors contributed by both individuals and unidentifiable factors are responsible for 10 to 30% of all infertility cases.

It has been found that a small number, just 10 to 20%, of couples fail to conceive after trying for a year. It is crucial that couples continue with their attempts at conception for 12 months, at the least.

Age Influenced Factors

Healthy couples who have intercourse regularly and are below 30 years old have only a 25 to 30% chance a month of becoming pregnant. A woman is most fertile when she’s in her 20s. Women above 35 years of age have a less than 10% chance of getting pregnant, and this declines as they get older.

More Non Age Related Causes

Factors related to age are not the sole reasons for infertility. Infertility may also be increased due to the following:

* Multiple sex partners (increases risk for STD)
* STDs
* Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) history
* Orchitis or epididymitis history in males
* Mumps in males
* Abnormal vein enlargement in scrotum
* Health background citing exposure to DES (both male and female)
* Eating problems among females
* Irregular menstrual cycles and anovulation
* Endometriosis
* A blockage in the cervix or uterine defects
* Long-term disease like diabetes

Be Knowledgeable of Natural Family Planning: Discovering the Comprehensive Facts

Posted by Guest on March 3rd, 2010

Natural family planning requires a lot of sexual awareness and plenty of knowledge on the body mechanisms that rule fertility. This kind of birth control is not easy, and both partners share the duty of getting information. The methods used in natural family planning can be applied in support of fertility efforts. Among the most common options here we can mention tests for ovulation, the monitoring of the cervical mucus, the basal temperature method, the standard days method, and even computer fertility tests and charts.

Natural family planning comes cheap and it is not difficult to understand and put into practice. Yet, it requires good communication with the life partner as well as willingness to accept the eventual limitations of the method. There are around ten days every month when sexual intercourse without birth control may result in pregnancy. You should either abstain or use some other birth control method. Mention must be made that natural family planning does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases, therefore, it should be used only if you know your partner very well. Condoms are the only ones that can stop STD.

For the efficient use of natural family planning, a woman has to interpret her fertility on a daily basis. Keep in mind that there are chances of getting pregnant even if you calculate your fertile and infertile days; consequently, consider alternative birth control if a pregnancy could be devastating for you. Therefore, if a possible pregnancy would not be such a disaster for you, natural family planning could be taken more lightly. The effectiveness of the method totally depends on how accurate and precise the woman is with the determination of the fertile period of the month.

In the case of perfect usage, natural family planning is more effective than oral contraceptives. Yet, if we are to discuss not the perfect user but the average user, the efficiency rate drops somewhere between 75% and 88%. These data look closer to reality because few people who use natural family planning, actually follow all the rules correctly.

Who relies on natural family planning? Such birth control choices enjoy a higher popularity within some communities because of some cultural or religious beliefs. There are families that won’t mind conceiving and therefore take little care of birth control. In fact, for lots of people who try natural family planning, a baby would not be a mistake or a problem.

Besides this family related information, there are many other information have been written by the author of this information especially in children stuff. If you are interested, you can check out the special website on instep double jogging stroller where you can get the best double baby jogging stroller, hopely this related information can give you the right way in parenting and providing the best product for your children needs.

Infertility Testing

Posted by Guest on March 2nd, 2010

Have the two of you decided to go see the doctor then? Yeah, I’d be a bit nervous too – especially with not knowing what to expect! But actually, infertility tests are relatively standard, so it isn’t too hard to get a clue as to what may be required. At your initial appointment the doc will ask a whole stack of questions with reference to your sexual and medical history, so be ready! You’ll probably need to have a physical as well, and then if the doctor can’t find anything obviously wrong there you may have to start on the next stage of testing.

Ladies first:

· Blood and urine tests – These will check FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) and LH (luteinizing hormone) during your cycle to check if you’re releasing eggs. These may also be used to test for thyroid problems or to check if you have an excess of prolactin – the hormone that tells your body to manufacture milk and not ovulate – not helpful if you haven’t had a baby yet! The test will also detect if you have any STDs.

· Postcoital test – Yup, you go for a test within hours of doing the baby dance, usually on the day before you ovulate. The idea is to check that the sperm actually made it to the cervix and that they are still moving vigorously, although the test isn’t exceptionally accurate, which is not necessarily a distressing thing, or else they may do it more regularly and that’s no fun!

· Pap smear – The doctor takes a sample of the tissue at the opening of the cervix (the os) to check for cervical cancer.

· Pelvic Examination – Also called the bimanual examination – two fingers out, two fingers in. A speculum (used for looking inside) might also be used and samples could be taken.

· Pelvic Ultrasound – This test uses sound waves to check for any structural abnormalities.

· Laparoscopy – The doc makes a small incision on the abdomen to make way for a miniature camera to look for scars or cysts or other visible problems – it may seem really sci-fi, but you’ll probably be knocked out so you won’t even realize what’s going on.

· Sonohysterogram – Like an ultrasound but saline solution (salt water) is squirted into the uterine cavity. This is used to look for any structural abnormalities.

· Hysterosalpingogram – Fluid is injected into the cervix and uterus to check by X-ray for obstructions in the fallopian tubes. This test is quite cool because sometimes the fluid itself unblocks the tubes!

· Endometrial Biopsy – A sample of the uterine lining is taken to monitor changes.

· Antibody test – Checks to see if you are making anti-sperm antibodies.

· Hysteroscopy – A miniature camera goes in through the vagina to look for any obvious abnormalities.

Men:

· Blood tests – Verifies that the concentrations of the various hormones are acceptable and screens for STDs.

· Analysis of Semen – That’s right, you’ll have to do the deed in a cup and have it tested pretty soon after before all the sperm die of old age. Many strong well-shaped sperm are ideal.

· Physical Examination of the Testicles – Normally this test forms part of the general physical and the doctor will check for large veins on the scrotum that overheat and kill spermies.

· Antibody test – To check that your immune system isn’t slaughtering the sperm before they even make it out the door.

· Ultrasound – Testicular problems may be checked by ultrasound scanning.

· Testicular Biopsy – The doc will take a swab of tissue from the testicles to check if they have sperm, especially if your semen doesn’t have any sperm in it.

You may also both need to go for genetic testing to test if you have any genetic conditions that might make you infertile. The most straightforward tests are performed first and if no cause is found then extra testing could be needed. It could become relatively expensive so it is generally best to have the simple tests first! The discomfort of having someone examining your privates makes the physical discomfort even worse, but many of the tests are not uncomfortable at all.

Hopefully, all that infertility testing will give you some idea of why you are infertile and then you can take the next step of doing something about it. But then again, once you’ve had all those tests you might still have no clue as to what is going on and that can be quite hard. You’ll generally find that the infertility clinic you go to will have counseling available – and it’s probably a good idea to take advantage of it regardless of whether you know what the problem is or not.

Lose Weight Fast By Improving Your Colon Health

Posted by Guest on February 27th, 2010

The medical community has come to a consensus that a majority of body ailments and diseases originate in the colon.

If fecal matter is not gotten rid of normally then it starts to become toxic in your body.Your body will actually start to absorb these toxins from your colon.

This also means that your fat cells will store these toxins making it impossible to lose 20 pounds. The high amount of acid given off in the colon encourages microbes to start releasing carcinogenic substances, possibly leading to colon cancer.

Colon cancer is the third most common form of cancer in the world, as well as the third leading cause of cancer-related death in the western world.

It is important to note that the western diet has progressively evolved to include smaller and smaller amounts of raw food.  We are the hamburger generation, after all. Of course, rapid weightloss is quickly becoming harder and harder for our generation.

One of the easiest ways to benefit colon health is adding raw fiber to diet. Raw fiber is provided by raw vegetables and fruits. This is definitely a lifestyle adjustment. It will take a couple of times to create a habit, but once you start to balance your diet, the benefit of health and weight loss is well worth it.

Here’s how to boost your colon health:

Where’s that Fruit? – How about adding an orange instead of orange juice?  Or a banana with a glass of milk on the run?

Help Yourself to a Salad – Salads are great to munch on, perfect for weight loss or weight control diets, and even go with pizza!  Salads have come a long way from drab lettuce and tomatoes.  Jazz things up by adding mandarin oranges or exotic dressings to make them fun.

Nutty Snacks
– Eating these in the proper portions can give you a great weight loss boost. Nuts and seeds contain protein and healthy fats that your body needs to stay healthy. They also include fiber.

Grains – Switch to whole grain - any whole grain – from your regular bleached, enriched white bread and you make a huge jump to adding fiber in your diet.  Whole grains also reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, and provide you several B vitamins and Iron as a bonus.

Always make sure that you never take your colon health for granted. It can determine your future health and help you to lose weight fast. Making these guidelines into a lifestyle will change your life and your waist line permanently.

Learn to get pregnant

Posted by Guest on February 26th, 2010

12.00 Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

Have you ever wondered how to get pregnant? This question evokes varying responses from different people. Romance and emotion do play their part in the decision of having a baby. However, it is not uncommon to feel pained and frustrated, especially among the couples who are not able to become parents). Ideas of a kinky nature are bound to come to such couples.

Most newly wed couples take adequate protection against having a baby too quickly. However, in a matter of months, even as the duo is still getting to know each other properly, the eagerness to conceive a kid increases. This is hardly surprising, given the natural instinct of motherhood in ladies. A wife always wants to become a mother, since that gives her a sense of fulfillment. Thus, even in a fiercely competitive world, where the cost of everyday living runs into thousands, the craving for a baby remains high.

However, the females need to know how to get pregnant in a proper, healthy manner. The welfare and healthiness of both the mother and the kid, who would be seeing the light of the world soon, is of paramount importance. Hence, a careful perusal of the following discussion is necessary:

• Women should start preparing to become a mother, at least 3 to 4 months prior to the actual delivery,
• Holistic measures for the maintenance of good health conditions is necessary for both the mother and child,
• A soon-to-be-mother should completely shun smoking and drinking habits,
• It is of paramount importance that no drugs of intoxication are consumed,
• Healthy, adequate nourishment is extremely necessary for women at these times. This is because both the pre-delivery and post-delivery periods are generally rather stressful for them, and
• For maintaining the desirable health conditions, minerals, proteins (that are easy to digest) and minerals should be consumed in adequate amounts.

It is also crucial to pay heed to some other important factors. Some such factors are:

? Thorough knowledge of one’s own body ? The period of ovulation in a woman is the ideal time for her to conceive a baby. Thus, she should be aware of the time of ovulation. There are, fortunately, many ways to find out what the time of ovulating would be. The ‘Post Ovulation Time’ (also termed the Luteal Phase) has to be estimated. This period, i.e., the time between ovulating and the date of commencement of the menstrual cycle, generally is fixed at 14 days in most women. The period starts after the length of the Luteal Phase, or 14 days after the occurrence of ovulation. There is an alternative way to find out the period of ovulation, which is based on the Basal Body Temperature method (i.e., the BBT technique). In this method, the temperature of the vagina is recorded by a specially-made BBT thermometer. This is done everyday in the morning. During the period of ovulation, this temperature rises significantly, and such increases can be easily tracked. For higher chances of conceiving a baby, sexual intercourse at these times is ideal.

? When does sexual union helps in conception the most? ? This information is necessary, since it ensures that the sperms of the best quality enter the female body at the time of ovulation. Sperms should have quick reaction time when a woman ovulates. Hence, fresh sperm is required to be present in the body of the female immediately before ovulating. However, there may occur certain problems in the sperm of the males too. In such cases, men should not be releasing sperms, for a minimum of 3 days before the scheduled day of sexual union. These data is extremely important, in case you are wondering how to get pregnant.

? The ideal frequency of lovemaking for higher chances of conceiving ? Among other factors, a correct estimate of the ovulation period in women and the overall physique of men determine the ideal frequency of sexual union. There is a school of thought that, sperm count goes down, with a resultant weakening of the male sperm, if intercourse is held everyday. Conversely, others tend to think that the male sperm becomes ineffective, old and stale (with much lower potency) if it remains within the testicles, due to prolonged periods of abstinence. It is generally recommended that, sexual union, during the period of female ovulation, should be held about once in every 2 days.

It is always better to provide holistic solutions to the question of how to get pregnant. Such an approach helps to gain an insight about the inner workings of our body, and the reasons for not conceiving earlier. It also comes up with several usable solutions to this problem, including medicines and herbs of Chinese origin as well as changes in eating habits and overall lifestyle. Suitable exercise methods and, if required, acupuncture is also recommended. Unlike the conventional methods, the holistic approach has no adverse side effects, and has a much higher chance of providing the desired results. Hence, in these cases, holistic approach works much better than conventional ways.

If you don’t look after your cervix, infertility might be waiting for you

Posted by Guest on February 25th, 2010

You probably remember this from grade school, but just to refresh your memory, the cervix is the gap at the lower end of the uterus, where it joins the upper end of the vagina. A healthy cervix is essential when it comes to conceiving and staying pregnant and delivering your baby. To be able to get through to the egg, the spermies have to pass through the cervix, so therefore if there are any problems you may struggle to get pregnant. You only have one cervix, and that’s generally the only way for the sperm to get in and it’s the usual way for the baby to get out, so look after it!

Some things that can go wrong at the cervix are:

· Your brain wants a baby but your body might not be happy to oblige. Sometimes cervical mucus can really make things really rough for the sperm rather than easier. The cervical mucus changes when you ovulate. It becomes thinner to help the sperm can move more easily. If your cervical mucus is hostile it just means that either it doesn’t go watery enough so the spermies can’t move easily, or not enough is made. Your cervical mucus may also contain anti-sperm antibodies, which damage or kill the poor chaps on their way to the egg. As an aside, part of the function of a hormonal contraceptive is to thicken the mucus so that the sperm can’t get through.

· Cervical stenosis is the narrowing of the cervix which could also impact your fertility negatively. You could have been born with a narrow cervix, or it could have become narrower because of scarring as a result of surgery or infection.

· Cervicitis is another problem with the cervix that could result in infertility. In essence, the word merely means that the cervix is swollen or inflamed and this will impact your fertility and your ability to carry your pregnancy for the full nine months or to deliver your baby the usual way.

Caring for your cervix:

· To up your odds of overcoming cervical cancer, and to steer clear of surgery and other treatments you must have regular pap smears. You ought to have a pap smear no less than once every two years from when you turn 18 – more often if you are particularly at risk. Surgery to remove cancer can scar the cervix so that it can’t make the right kind of mucus or the opening becomes too narrow. You can lessen your odds of getting cervical cancer by limiting your sexual partners and waiting until age 18 to become sexually active. That is not a scare tactic to stop teens from sleeping around, it’s a fact, so if it’s too late for you, and even if it isn’t, ensure that you warn other young ladies about the risks.

· Be safe, don’t have abortions, as each time someone pokes a sharp instrument up there your risk of damage goes up. Damage to the cervix can close it so that it’s challenging for sperm to get through, or it may inhibit the cervix from working properly leading to something called an ‘incompetent cervix’ which increases your chance of complications and even miscarriage.

· Avoid cervicitis by not engaging in risky behavior when it comes to your sex life. STDs are no fun! Having multiple sexual partners, becoming sexually active before 18 years of age, inserting foreign objects into your vagina and engaging in other risky sexual practices can all make you more liable to get cervicitis, which can lead to all sorts of other problems such as cervical cancer, chronic pain, fertility and pregnancy problems. Yet again, warn your daughters, and for that matter, warn your sons too!

If you’ve had problems with your cervix, infertility might be on the cards for you. Although prevention is better than cure, if you do have problems, don’t give up, you do have alternatives.
