Integrity - A Key to Success

Posted by Courtney Pollock on January 6th, 2009

The 8 Keys of Excellence is a powerful framework for personal effectiveness that, if put into practice, promotes successful living and helps to create an environment where each person in your life is valued and respected. Kids and teens at the academic summer camp SuperCamp learn that when you hold yourself accountable for how you apply the 8 Keys to your life, others are more willing to be held accountable for their own choices and actions.

Integrity is the first of the 8 Keys of Excellence. Integrity can be defined as the state of authenticity when our values and actions are aligned. This state of authenticity happens when what we value is evident in our actions. Integrity is first about knowing yourself-your values, desires, talents and dreams-and then being true to that self, in all your actions and interactions.

Living in integrity means making sure your behaviors match your values. When your actions are aligned with your values, you carry yourself with authenticity, sincerity and wholeness. When you define your values, it helps you set goals that are consistent with those values. Together, your values and goals bring a sense of passion and purpose to your life in everything you do. Many people simply behave the way they feel like behaving, and afterwards find some justification-any justification-for why they did what they did. Their values are largely unconsidered.

Highly successful people, in contrast, use their values to steer their actions. They reflect, and then act. Their values motivate their actions, because they choose their actions to harmonize with their values. Check your motivation-can you be honest enough with yourself to really admit why you’re doing something? Is it really a reflection of your values, or a reflection of what you want at the moment?

Choose your behavior to reflect your values, and you’ll move through life with authenticity, sincerity, and wholeness. When you live with integrity, it’ll show. People will trust you, almost instinctively. They’ll think of you as a person of your word. You’ll be known for your strong character.

When you live with integrity, you’ll enjoy a clear conscience. You’ll be filled with good feelings about yourself. Those good feelings will pour into everything you say and do. Integrity fosters trust and respect, the cornerstones of good relationships and good relationships are vital to success in all aspects of life. Align your actions with your values.

Live what you value. If you value honesty, be truthful. If you value keeping your word, follow through. If you value being fair, do what you expect others to do. Your identity is who you are, and your integrity is an expression of that identity. So ask yourself - What do you value? How do these values show up in your life? Do your current behaviors support these values?

Arranging for a Unique Baby Shower.

Posted by Guest on January 6th, 2009

Finding out you are pregnant is the best news of all. Well, second to hearing the grand proposal of a lifetime. After a successful wedding ceremony, hearing that your love has borne fruit is the icing on the cake.

For a first time mother-to-be it can be a very difficult job to search for the right stuff for the new baby. A simple solution to this would be to prepare a list of necessary things which the new born will require, and purchasing them little by little, so that all the necessary items can be arranged for before the arrival of the new born.

But there’s another easy way to have it all, without much difficulty. Giving a baby shower party, is a perfect solution for this. The only headache mom-to-be would have is the menu she would have to prepare on that day and that is easier for her. The joy and thrill of the party can be added up by sending unique baby shower invitations to the guests.

By planning for a baby shower you are shifting the burden of selecting baby stuff to the guests. But now another question arises. How will the baby shower go about? This concern can be solved, if we choose a theme based baby shower, which will help to guide the flow of the party. Why not go for a unique baby shower theme. A party theme based on colors can be a good one. If you already know the gender of the baby, why not base the theme accordingly and set your theme based on Pink for a baby girl and Blue for a baby boy. Or How about character-themed baby shower such as the Sesame Street, Power Puff Girls, Dexter’s Laboratory or the Looney Tunes?

After the party make a note of the things which you have got as gifts. It is quite possible that you still miss out some important baby stuff from the list, just make sure to get it before the arrival of the new baby.

Some last tips for a successful baby shower party:

Hold the party at least one month prior to the due date, and organize the party by properly planning for the theme, making guest list, budgeting, planning the menu and arranging the venue.

Remember, the baby shower party is a way to welcome the new baby, so have fun in doing so.

7 Steps to Getting the Right Toddler Travel Bed for Your Child

Posted by Jen Stoddart on January 6th, 2009

Don’t lose sleep trying to decide which Toddler Travel Bed is right for your child. It used to be when parents took their kids overnight to grandmas that grandma and grandpa had a second-hand crib that the toddler could sleep in. Or when traveling on vacation parents would rely on some crummy old crib setup by the hotel.

Safety and comfort is number 1 at all times when it comes to your child - and even more so when travelling with you son or daughter. Have you ever had that one night when your child cries all night - and you just know it is a result of them sleeping in an uncomfortable bed? How about getting to a hotel room and you see the crib they have set up for your son or daughter - and there is absolutely no way that you will be placing them in there to sleep - not clean - not safe - and so on. You may be ready for a toddler travel bed. There are many good quality beds to choose from - but how do you decide on the one that is the best option for your family. Read our 7 tips to help clarify your decision.

1. Lightweight - make sure that the bed is light enough to carry. When you are travelling with your toddler think about strategies to keep your load light. One way to do this is to buy a travel bed that is light. It should certainly weigh less than 6 pounds or under 3 kilograms. The lighter the better.

2. Small. You may be packing the bed to take with you on a plane or a cruise ship or just loading into your car with all the other baby gear. Look for one that is small when packed away. Good portable beds will be no larger than 60 centimetres by 20 centimetres by 20 centimetres or 24 inches by 8 inches by 8 inches. The toddler travel bed should also come with its own carry case.

3. Easy to set up - the last thing you want is when you get to your destination is having to fumble in setting up the bed for your child. It should be a simple process to set up and a simple process to fold it back up again when you are finished. Set up time and fold up time should take less than 1 minute, and it should be able to be done by one person.

4. Able to reach your child with ease. It’s midnight and your child is awake. You want to be able to easily put them back to sleep by patting their back or you want to pick them up. You want to easily and effortlessly get to your child. Look for a bed that has a side panel that zips down so that the panel can be lowered allowing you to reach for your son or daughter.

5. Good air ventilation - a good bed will provide for good air flow for your child. Look for one that has mesh side panels that will allow for good air flow helping to keep your child comfortable.

6. Light and comfortable mattress. The mattress in a toddler travel bed can sometimes be heavier than the bed frame itself. Look for a travel bed that comes with a foam mattress - it will be both comfortable for your child and lightweight to carry.

7. Buy with confidence. Check to make sure that the retailer that you purchase from has a no problem return policy - you want to make sure that the bed can be returned (with no problems from the retailer) if it just isn’t right for your family. And if the bed that you purchase is a high quality one, the manufacturer should provide a life time guarantee which will protect you years from now in case there is a problem.

If you travel (even to the relatives) a couple of times a year having a toddler travel bed will make it so much easier for you and your family. We think that it is an essential piece of baby gear. If you a considering a travel bed for your toddler daughter or son refer to these seven tips when making your purchasing decision.

Feeding The Family In A Few Minutes

Posted by Nicole Dean on January 5th, 2009

Kids need to eat. Three meals a day, every day. All moms know how important it is to have an arsenal of quick meals handy. You never know when you’ll have to put healthy food on the table in a hurry, or when you need ideas so dad can help.

Dip It: I haven’t met a kid yet that didn’t like to dunk carrots into ranch style dressing. Build on that “meal” by creating a whole arrangement of vegetables to dip. Choose some nice fresh cucumbers, celery, broccoli, carrots, red bell pepper, green bell peppers, radishes, and cauliflower, and arrange them on a plate just for your little dipper. Watch your picky eater devour their plate of vegetables before they even know what they’re eating.

Sandwich Art: When creating a sandwich, start with some innovative bread, like waffles, pancakes, English muffins, rolls, hamburger buns, or bagels. Then create your masterpiece by adding jam, meat slices, pickles, peanut butter, vegetables, eggs, cheese, or anything that looks like it might like to join your sandwich.

Never Fail Noodles: Every pantry should have an assortment of noodles at the ready. When dinner plans are unsure, noodles will be there to pull off a family-friendly meal in a minute. Start some noodles boiling and search the kitchen for goodies to add. Try adding some leftover vegetables to your hot noodles and topping with cheese. If you have a can of chicken broth you can make a quick soup with noodles and some celery and onion. A skillet dish with some hot, cooked noodles, pasta sauce stirred in, and topped with cottage cheese makes a great mock lasagna.

Roll ‘Em: Tortillas make a great go-to meal when you’re running out of time for dinner planning. If you have any leftover meat, chicken, fish, or vegetables, black beans, pinto beans, or cheese, you’ve got the makings for a very fast burrito. The ingredients are endless; as endless as your leftovers!

Potatoes If You Please: If you want a really nutritious quick meal, try potatoes. You can peel and boil a batch, mash, and top with a quick gravy made with leftover chicken or beef, cut up and added to some melted cheese and milk. It only takes about 5 minutes to microwave a potato, so you can quickly serve a baked potato topped with anything that happens to be in your pantry or refrigerator, like black beans, onion, and diced chicken, and top it all with cottage cheese.

Soup Warms the Soul: Fill a pan with broth and veggies. Then, just throw in whatever you have in the house, meat or beans, leftovers, a can of diced tomatoes, noodles or rice, and spices. You just made soup in minutes.

Turn the Day Upside Down: You can have breakfast any time. Cereal, eggs & bacon, waffles, and pancakes are all so much more delicious when they’re unexpected. Breakfast is always better at night.

When dinnertime is rushed and your creativity goes out the window, come back to these ideas and your family will have a meal in minutes.

Teach Your Baby Sign Language and Find out what She Wants!

Posted by Gillie Saane on January 5th, 2009

Baby is crying and you’ve done everything! Diaper is dry. She’s not hungry. Aaacckkk!!! Why is your baby crying? If only she could talk to you. That’s silly. Babies don’t talk. They don’t? Sure they do. Babies talk all the time. They just don’t talk in English.

When your baby is screaming at the top of her lungs, her face blue from lack of oxygen intake, and her eyes are bulging out like one of the muppets, you think, just maybe, it’s because she’s trying to tell you something? Good guess. Her tears are from utter frustration because even though she’s making more noise than a rock concert, she thinks you can’t hear her! If you were listening you’d help her!

The trouble is, your baby doesn’t speak English and mom doesn’t speak Bbbllfftt! What we have here is a failure to communicate.

But how about if both were on the same page? How about you teach your baby sign language?

Teach my baby sign language? Now there’s a bright idea. Okay. Let me see, maybe I can squeeze it in between her chemical engineering class and her opera lesson. Thanks for the advice, and I’ll see ya later.

Hold on there, mom of the year. Wendy Jensen says — Yes! Yes you can teach your baby sign language! She knows because she’s done it (well, she taught her babies, not yours). And she’s taught other parents (successfully, by the way) to teach their babies, too.

Sure you’re skeptical. But I mean to tell you that Wendy did it. And she’s not alone. Thousand of other moms have also taught their babies sign language. And not all of these moms went to Princeton (or even Boise State). Fact is, this is a pretty average group. Don’t get me wrong, they are smart women. But they don’t necessarily share the room with Iris Murdoch or Madame Curie. Truth be known, they are probably not as bright as you.

Okay. Now if that weren’t enough, there are still MORE benefits from teaching your baby sign language.

First off: No longer will little Hermione have to scream her little head off to tell you, her mother, that her little toe hurts (because she had it in her foot in her mouth a minute ago) and she bit it with her brand new tooth. Oh, no. Now she can just give you a sign.

But just hold on, there, mama. There are other lifetime benefits.

Young kids develop better language skills when they have learned sign language as a baby. Kids don’t have to have hearing impairment to be helped. They are helped because they learn to communicate better. They will be much more interested in the world around them. Now who would have guessed that? But it’s true.

Here’s a few reasons why it probably works this way:

Think about this: Tommy tries to shave like his daddy. Susie wants to play dress up in high heels like mommy (we hope its not reversed). Why? Because kids are born mimics. Sign language is another form of mimicking. Kids start younger following the example of their parents, i.e., adult type behavior.

And If you are going to be a mimic, first you have to be a quick-study. You can’t dance like Britney without first watching (studying) Britney dance. Pretty logical. Therefore, signing develops attention skills. Kids study the person signing in order to “hear and understand” This keeps kids focused and their little mushy brains working full speed to keep up. And they love it!

Kids think learning to sign is an action game. Kids love action games!

Now just imagine this from your little moppet’s point of view: instead of mom and dad telling her to shush (kids hate to shush), or dumping her back in the play pen, (kids hate to be dumped back in the play pen) her parents are giving her a whole bunch of positive attention!

Now, are we saying if you teach your baby sign language she is guaranteed a full blown scholastic scholarship to an Ivy League school? Sure why not. Or at least she will have a jump start on everyone else. Kids that learn that learning is fun, well, now, they are set for life. So when you teach your baby sign language, it’s like the sage old advice: Give a baby a fish and she eats today. Teach a babyto fish and you feed her for a lifetime. Well, kinda like that. The point being, the benefits to your little angel are not just for right now. She will benefit for her whole life.

Topic Of When to Start Buying Baby Clothing and Accessories

Posted by Guest on January 5th, 2009

If you are the expectant mother, you should see to it that everything is in place a couple of months before you give birth. It will not do you any good if you get caught off guard. You should remember that during the next two months before you give birth to your baby, you might find it a bit heavy to move around a lot. In most cases, as your baby grows in your stomach, you will become increasingly out of breath when you walk for extended periods of time in a mall.

Your back could hurt a bit besause of the hurt reasoned by the weight of the baby on your tummy so make sure that you do all your preparations well in advance to avoid undue pressure. Note that stress is not good for you and your baby so try to keep it under control before the due date.

Topic Of When to Start Buying Baby Outfitting and Accessories.Although there are some women who would not want the ultrasound to determine the gender of their baby, there are many women who would like to have one for practical purposes. Most women have ultrasounds to determine the health and position of the baby in the womb during the seventh month of their pregnancy. Furthermore, knowing whether you are going to have a son or a daughter will help you choose the right baby clothing and accessories.

If you know whether you are having a baby boy or a baby girl, you will be able to buy specific baby clothing and accessories. If you are expecting a baby boy, you may not start buying those soft blue baby clothing and accessories. On the other hand, if you are expecting a baby girl, you may go ahead and get those lovely pink dresses for your little princess. Accessories will include vests, socks, shoes, perhaps some hair ribbons for a girl as well as outerwear such as a jacket if it’s cold or a sun hat if it’s very hot and sunny.

How to Go Newborn Baby Clothes Shopping

Posted by Guest on January 5th, 2009

While looking around for the best deals on strollers, car seats and diapers, you might be tempted to pick up a few clothes at every store. Don’t. There are many causes for not going overboard with baby outfits even though they seem like the cutest, tiny things you have ever seen reasons for not going overboard with baby clothing even though they seem like the cutest, tiny things you have ever seen.

This is the biggest explanation why you should purchase only as many baby outfits as you actually need. Your baby boy or girl may weigh 6 pounds when he was born , but he’s going to double in size very soon. Buy not more than five 0-3month size clothes because they grow out of them the fastest. Buy more 3-6 months and 6-9 month clothes if your budget allows. That way you won’t have to lug your baby around shopping in the first few weeks when you would rather catch up on zzz’s.

Even if you do a good job calculating what season it will be when he turns three, six and nine months, sometimes Mother Nature can surprise you. It can get very cold in L.A or surprisingly warm in Colorado. Accordingly, do not save on so many baby clothes that he is forced to end up wearing a sun hat ensemble in fifty degrees.

The elaborate outfits may tug at your heart, but they will be the most cumbersome to get on, off and change in between the gazillion diaper changes. Stick to cotton and natural fabrics with snap on buttons which allow easy changes even if you are on a plane or in a busy mall rest room.

If you know the sex of the baby, then your job is easier. But if you are keeping it t a surprise, then don’t buy too many ‘neutral’ clothes for the baby because if you look closely, there aren’t very many choices that are truly appropriate for either a boy or a girl. A seemingly safe yellow bet may have flowers on some corner which is a fashion faux pas even for a two month old and a yes, girls can wear blue, but not something which has race cars or tools on them please.

If you are registering at a store for baby gifts, try not to include clothes. One reason is that while car seats and play pens are pretty standardized, baby clothing selections vary from region to region and if your aunt in Texas is accessing your registry, she might not be able to get the item.

What to Do with Outgrown Baby and Child Clothing

Posted by Guest on January 4th, 2009

what can you do with the baby and child clothing that your kids outgrow or are too inappropriate for the climate you are living in.

Donating to a charity is one of the easiest ways of getting rid off outgrown baby and child clothing. You can even get a receipt that can assist for deductions come tax moment. Handing clothes down to cousin’s friends and neighbors is usually a good choice and many people willingly accept them.

If you plan on having more children, wash and store the clothes. You will derive more pleasure (and save some money) when your second son wears the t-shirt you got on your first trip to Disney or the shirt that grandma Jean gave before she passed away.

If you have special memories attached to any particular baby or child clothes and can’t bear to part with them, then frame one or two in a shadow box or get them professionally framed. Alternatively, take pieces of the fabric and make a quilt out of it. This way you won’t be taking up too much space in your garage and you can actually use the end product.

You can sell your baby and child clothing at garage sales or list them on eBay, but in both these examples you will want to sort, tag and cost time with the purchase. It may entail standing in you garage for an entire weekend or taking pictures and describing clothes on eBay. A third alternative could be taking the clothes to stores like Once Upon a Child which will buy your clothes and re-sell them.  They often help you just make one trip by mailing you a check for the items you accept and donating the rest to a charity.

All these rules apply to clean and wearable clothes. Try spot cleaning and laundering your clothes before you send them to charity. They may not be in pristine condition, but don’t insult yourself and the recipient by donating shreds of grape juice stained clothes. If you can fix baby and child clothing, then donate, sell or hand them down. Otherwise, throw it in the trash.

Tips for Choosing Cute baby Clothes

Posted by Guest on January 4th, 2009

Selecting hip baby clothes for your baby to wear is one of the joys of having a baby
In order to make any day like Halloween for toddlers and infants, parents have refined this practice down to a fine art.
While scary and grotesque outfits rarely show up on a baby even during the actual Halloween celebrations, there are plenty of parents that like to dress their sons as football players and their daughters as princesses. Parents enjoy selecting cute baby clothes
At times, the infants make the parents feel as if they are re- living their childhood through their babies and want to play dress up. And that’s OK really.        It’s just part of being a parent.
The Santa Suit
Every Christmas stores are full of miniature santa dresses and Father Christmas romper suits. These only have a limited season but it seems for parents it’s worth the expense just to see your baby dressed up like a Santa once a year.
Elf outfits, Rudolph costumes and snowmen suits are some other options for cute baby clothes for the holiday season!
The Sailor
People love ships and sailors, though, and have been dressing their baby boys in naval inspired clothes over the generations for over a hundred years.
No one really knows why, but it seems that when a man reviews his baby pictures, there is always one of him as a baby or toddler wearing a sailor suit.
The Sports Star. Every Dad imagines his son raising up a sports cup to a cheering crowd.
It’s the only feasible explanation for the popularity of baby boys sports outfits, even men who have never been great at sports themselves seem to have a burning desire to see their sons succeed at sports.
You can buy them from sports shops all over.
Your boy may not be the next olympic winner but you can dream that he is as you admire him in his sporty baby kit.
These come in official versions licensed by clubs and generic versions that just share some team colors.
The Baby Princess. Even little baby girls don’t escape the dress-up play imposed by their parents, but are dressed in more traditional items like frilly dresses, white tights, and little patent leather shoes.Their mothers may imagine them to be princesses or fairies, but mostly just do their best to make them beautiful.
Since all babies i have seen are very beautiful and really so cute, the only thing more beautiful than the average baby is your baby!

Tips For Baby Shower

Posted by Ferdinand Mekinsy on January 4th, 2009

In Sing It, Baby!, the guests participants form a circle. They can sit or stand. Then, each guest must sing a line or two from a song that has the word “baby” in it. When the first game player has finished, the next person seated on her right has ten seconds to sing another “baby” song. “Baby” songs cannot be repeated, thus, participants who repeat a song or cannot think of a “baby” song gets booted out of the game. Last person singing in this baby game shower wins the prize!

It can be a little confusing as a parent of a newborn when you start to think about what kind of pacifier to get for your baby. In 1996, Westbury, New York, Baby R Us opened its first store. It has been immediately followed with opening six more branches on different locations at the end of the year. After tremendous expansion and joining the Baby Superstore chain, Baby R Us store count has reach 218 at the beginning of 2005. What a mammoth feat for a baby store, right?

In his article on how to find the perfect baby bedding, it must be neither too hard nor too soft. In the past, sudden infant death syndrome or SIDS was attributed to very soft baby bedding. This happened when the baby’s mattress is too soft that his nose and mouth gets covered and the air he exhales is the air he breathes. This is dangerous for him since he would breath carbon dioxide rather than oxygen and the effects could lead to drowsiness, coma or even death.
